Troll vs anchor

We always troll for sportfish or anchor when bottom fishing. With high gas prices and seeing a show last week got me thinking of trying for kings, dolphin, and wahoo at anchor. They had good success on Into The Blue or whatever show it was. Anybody have consistant success chumming and chunking at anchor for gamefish?

Fished offshore alot back in the 90's-2004 or so off Wrightsville and always thought about that. If you ever want to try something like that let me know, i'll throw in for gas, bait, ect. My brother and his buddies, although newbies, have had some success chunking up north in the canyons.

We chunk in the ne for tuna or troll..or jig..depends on the bite. Also chunk for swords at night in the canyons.

I would think that as long as you are anchored over structure or near a temperature break that it would work. I have been wanting to try this as well.

I talked with a guy last year in a tackle store in Mt Pleasant. He said that they had done exactly that. He said that where they were, there were so many boats in the area that it was hard to troll. So they anchored and started a chum line and caught the crap out of them.

I think that i'm gonna give it a try this year.

The Charter Captains in our area drift while jigging.
Putting very impressive fish in the boat.
Check out FPT to see what I talking about........

Hope this helps ..... ICM

Down here we will drift the edge with a couple of kites up, two flat lines and a couple of deep lines to cover all the water column.

Up in the northeast depending on the time of year we drift or anchor for tuna.

Thanks for the replies. I forgot to mention, occasionally when sibiki'n up cigars something substantial hits a minnow, I've tried to go easy but they always break off. I don't see why using the same tactic but with adequate gear wouldn't work. Gunna give it a try this season.
