I am new to saltwater fishing and will be doing inshore west coast of Florida fishing and would like a little education on how to set up my reels.

What kind of reels are you using and what kind of fishing are you doing?

Trout, redfish and whatever in the Sarasota area with 10 to 20 lb spinning reels as well as small calcutta's.

Depending on the wariness of the fish I would use about 3 feet of 30lb Trilene XT as a shocker. I'm sure many will recommend flourocarbon.

It really depends on what you're targeting and where. A good baseline is to go with either 25 or 30 pound fluoro, but that is going to vary a lot based on surroundings and time of year. On the flats targeting reds, trout, etc. you'll probably be safe scaling that down even a little lighter, but if you're fishing rocks or cover for sheepshead and the like you might want to bump it up a bit. When I fish the flats and there are bigger critters around like tarpon and bull reds, I usually do the same, just in case I hook up to one of them while trying for smaller stuff. You're learning the game in a great area, and if you have any more specific questions, private message me.
