Fishing in Kauai, HI

Does anyone have any suggestions on someone to fish with around Kauai? I will be there for a week in a few months and don't want to get stuck with a bad "tourist" charter. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Main goal will be to catch fish
but secondary will be catch and release billfish. Would like to fish multiple days.

Places like Hawaii and florida are well known for charters that take customers for "boat rides" or barracuda trips as their next charter is just the next plane away bringing in a fresh wave of new suckers. You're concern is a real one as is mine, so kudos for doing some research rather than a guessing game at the dock.
i'm going to Kona and Hilo in a week and asked over on BD in the Hawaii section and received some good recommendations and found a good reputable charter that will do what i want (not just troll around all day).
check out www.bloodydecks.com (BD), many good people and locals to point you in the right direction for hawaii fishing.
good luck.

We fished with this guy back in June and they're hard core. Not a tourist cocktail cruise. I found them by asking on this site and he was also reccomended on bloody decks forum. Caught a decent wahoo although fishing wasn't on fire. I'd definately fish with them again.

I know this isn't for Kauai, but since someone mentioned Kona I wanted to share some recommendations I just provided for a relative.
If you want to do bill fishing in Kona, without a question here's (in order of precedence) who I'd personally book:
#1: Marlin Magic
Captain Jason Holtz or Capt Marlin Parker
43' Allied Marline

#2: Strong Persuader
Captain Shane O'Brien (his father fished with Bart Miller)
43' Meritt

#3: Sea Genie II
Captain Gene Vander Hoek
39' Rybovich

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am definitely looking for feedback from experience and other good fishing sites so the links you posted are greatly appreciated. I don't mind a bad day of fishing because the fish don't cooperate but I don't want to have a bad day because of the captain.

Then go with the guy I posted above. Fishing was slow and the weather sucked but had a good time anyway. The capt and mate worked their asses off and we tipped them generously and he gave us free t-shirts with his boat logo.

I'll 2nd deepseafishingkuaui, I fished with Capt. Jude a couple years back and had a blast caught a pile of mahi to about 15#, yellowfin and bigeye tuna to 30# and a wahoo. First time on the Pacific for me...rougher than h*ll and he said it was normal conditions, I was there in early September and they had caught a blue marlin that weighed 650+ the day before.

Thanks guys. Captain J has been highly recommended on here and another forum so I plan to give him a call in the next few days. Will post pics if we have a good day.

Howzit Gents!!
I usually fish Kauai waters like everyone does 4 80w Tiagras and reel em in maybe 2 50w off the back. However I have seen Spencer jigging and casting of bouy H2 and was wondering if anyone has an opinion on what Shimano Trinidad reel to get for the Mahi I am going to pick up a couple and wanted the pros to chime in on a Trinidad 30 or 16 ????
Thanks broskis!!
