Default Boca Grande

Gonna be in Boca Grand first part of April, bout 3-4 days so im dragging the boat down. My question is what species of fish should I be targeting? Im not at all familiar to Boca and going down blind. Any help on areas, bait, species of fish and watering holes with good food and fun atmosphere on the water would be greatly appreciated. BTW, found a Best Western on the river with boat slip im gonna stay at, bout 10 miles from Little Gaspirilla island.

X 2 - Definitely do some Tapon fishing while you're there. The Tarpon fishing in Boca is amazing and like nothing else you have ever seen before. As BSpot said, Cabbage Key is a must see while you are there as well. A very cool place with good food and a great atmosphere. You guys will have a blast!

Is there a best time of year to fish for tarpon in Boca Grand? Also any good recommendations for motels with dockage?

We always rent a house on Little Gasparilla when we go down so I’m not sure about motels. As far as the best time to catch Tarpon, we usually go down in May or June and some times in July and we have always done very well. There are some big Tarpon there that time of year. I’ve heard the Tarpon fishing is great in April as well but we have yet to make it down there in April to try it out.

You can bounce some big jigs in the pass and if skunked, just head west up into Charlotte Harbor an fish the flats..tons of trout, redfish and cobia. You can net up some greenbacks along the beaches easily or along side of the docks west of the pass..

June is the best month for tarpon. Plenty of redfish, snook and trout around though. The Harpoon Harry's is right near your hotel and will be your best bet for night time entertainment. I lived down in that area for a few years. Great inshore fishing. There won't be much night life for you though.
