Penn Battle BTL8000
Got what seems to be a very good deal on this reel on ebay for $99 delivered. I got it because it was all metal, except for an annoying little plastic trim piece.

Anyone use one yet > Any reviews of the battle series ?

I haven't used them yet but, just bought 2 6000s. I haven't been as impressed with a reel in this price range in a long time.

Hey Cap,
You've got a PM.

Got my hands on one yesterday. It felt like a very solid reel for $155. The 5000 was no slouch either. I hope this is a turn around for Penn.

I like them. Looked at one over the weekend. I currently use the Sargas which I love. I normally fish for flounder most of the time and love the braid line on the Sargas, has a "reel" good feel. Both the Sargas and Battle are very nice for the price.

I can't wait to get back out there!!!!!

Are they in stock anywhere? Ordered a pair before Christmas and they still have not come in.

I got a 8000 on for 89.99. If anyone wants it I will sell for the 89.99 plus shipping it's a little bigger then I wanted, The 6000 would be better for me

I have a battle 6000 on the jig rod I just bought and while i have not fished with it yet it seem like a great reel for the money so far.

Yes, they have been available for about a month now.

It may be hard to find reviews on the larger models just yet. The smaller ones are very solid and a great choice in that price range.

I ordered my BTL 8000 on a Saturday or Sunday, and received it on the following Wednesday.

I am going to put backing on the reel because 90% of my use will be of the leader and the top 100-150 yards of the braid. I intend to use it to cast large baits and/or lures to sharks, cobia, king mackerel, and hopefully some dolphin and tuna. This reel will hold 390 yards of 80 lb braid; no sense in paying to spool it up completely with braid when only the top 100 feet or so will be used when casting.

80 lb mono is so thick, though, that I have decided to spool it with 50lb mono backing, then 300 yds of 50 lb braid, then a 65-80 lb leader.

All times are GMT -7. The time now is 06:25 AM.
