Default Best time of the year to fish Keys

Ok, I have been to the Keys numerous times at different times of the year. But I am planning another trip with some friends. We are trying to decide what the best month is. We were planning on May for the Dolphin bite but the more I read about it, it seems like the dolphins are small then. I am also concerned that Grouper will still be closed?
I was thinking September might be a better option. I read you run into bigger dolphins and the grouper should be open again.

Opinions of all kinds are welcome.

Grouper is set to open May 1. (unless I am missing an update). May should be good with lighter winds, not too hot.
Left Key Largo on Friday. Hated to, but cash job in Mich calling.

May,June, and July are usually our best months for Dolphin, depending on the water temp. You may catch bigger fish in Sept. but they could be few and far between. ;?

We went May last year and did great on dolphin. Going in May again this year, the winds sure as hell can kick up but if your willing to go out in it then you can surely be rewarded.

Default Keys trip

I have caught my largest dolphin in May the last three years, but as others have said the winds can be a problem. The last two years the bite slowed in late June.
My recommendation is last part May or second week in June. Stay away from a full moon.

May-June is a good choice. No matter when you are there fishing and diving will be good. If you want that 50lb Mahi I would lean towards May off the Full Moon. But if you like alot of action and enjoy reef fishing the Full Moon in June is great b/c of the Mangroe snapper spawn, set up at night in 45ft of water (approx. 3.5 miles out) and catch 3lb grovers all night, or your limit of 5 per person!
