Default Fishing Tournament Promotion

Hey guys,
I'm on the board for a non-profit tournament, www.reelingforkids.com. The tournament is based out of Steinhatchee, FL and is the largest in the Big Bend. Each year our attendance and sponsorship has grown and we are looking at new ways promote the event and/or make it better for the anglers. If any of you have any novel ideas from your area we are open to suggestions and appreciate the input!
Thanks!
JT

JT, I run one of the largest single day offshore tourneys in the country. It is produced by a local radio station and the entry fee is free! We give out over $20,000 in cash each year and consistantly have over 800 boats with over 3000 anglers participating

The large audience is what our sponsors want. This gives them the bodies in which to promote their product, service or message. The popularity with the sponsors allows us to bring in the dollars neccesary to make the tournament profitable for the radio station and provide a great event for all involved.

We offer 1st 2nd & 3rd place for 5 fish categories, dolphin, wahoo, king, grouper, cobia.

We also offer 3 cash awards of $1000, $500 and $250 available by drawing from tickets given to those that have caught a legal sized fish in one of the 5 categories.

We have an insured prize of $96,500 that the winner of the tournament gets to play for at the end of the weigh-in. This is done with an envelope pull that guarantees the winner at least a $500 rod/reel combo but also a chance at $10,000, $965 or the $96,500.

On Friday night we have a large Capt's Party in a festival like atmosphere that provides our sponsors the chance to meet the attendees. We also raffle off over $10,000 in prizes on that night and provide live music.

Contact me if you would like any other ''pointers''. I would love to help out.

The tournament is the WHTQ Saltwater Classic out of Port Canaveral, FL. Held each year on Mother's Day weekend.

Damn, now that sounds like a great time! I know I would attend if there was something like that in the Ft. Lauderdale / Miami area.

Gents,

I'm on the left coast and run a 100% volunteer, registered 501(c)(3) fishing charity called the Washington Tuna Classic ( http://www.washingtontunaclassic.com ). We fish for Albacore tuna out of Westport Washington. Teams weigh in their five heaviest fish to win but we give away drawing tickets for each fish and each 10lbs of food. All the above is donated to regional food banks. Our second event resulted in 7056 pounds of tuna and 1825 pounds of food being donated. We also focus on taking wounded warriors out fishing during the event and hopefully, year round going forward.

At barely two years old we are still kinda small but we've made some pretty big strides and would be happy to share intel and resources. An example would be website development and online registration. I spent some serious quality time building a database driven site that allows teams to sign up and pay online. There is a full back bone to the system that allows custom email messages, attachments, email and newsletter updates etc etc.. I'm currently working on Facebook and Twitter integration, individual and team photo galleries, online polls and forums. There is a lot of capability and that includes hundreds of events with their own managers. It's really overkill for where we are now but leaves all kinds of room for growth. If you want, I can hook you up with free hosting and online registration for a small cost. I already built it and it seems kinda silly not to use the resource closer to it's potential.
