Where are you staying?
I live at the Westin Laguna Mar, there are quite a few great boats, each hotel has one they recommend.
I went bottom fishing last Monday and caught Queen triggers, red snapper, and some grouper.
Grouper is closed now, but the sailfish bite is strong.
Imagine a ball of bait, 100 feet in diameter with 10-15 sails taking turn to eat at their lesure.
The most beautiful site ever!
May, bottom bite, and the mahi will be good.
There are some good boats south near Play del Carmen and run is not as far to the good fishing.

good luck.

I did a 1/2 day charter throwing light tackle plastic and jigs at juvie tarpon and snook in the mangroves behind Cancun.

That was before the new year, 13 months ago- when the sails hadn't shown. It was fun, nice guys, and close.

Depends on your targets...

Have fun!

As for species, you have sailfish, HUGE dolphin, and big blackfin tuna in ridiculous numbers off of Isla Mujeres that time of year. Throw in a few wahoo, white marlin and the occasional blue and that is the offshore mix.

We will be in Cancun end of July. Really could not find a lot of information about charters in that area, but after some interet searching found a charter from a smaller charter guy.

He callled me the day I contacted him to discuss a charter. Photos of his boats looked good. Kind of going to have to wait and see. but I'll definately post how it went. Holding off posting the link to the charter person on this post- to avoid any bashers etc.

Hoping there are some fish off Cancun late July.

you should really drive the 45 minutes to puerto aventuras and fish out of there. the fishing is much better and there is a very established and large charter operation in capt' rick's (see my above post for link).

Yep. saw the link, but relocating for a charter is not in the cards at this time.

I anticipate we'll have fun regardless.
