Default Distance from Shore?

Have a friend who wants to shark fish so I said I would take him. I was needing to know is there any regulations on how close to shore you can chum for sharks and where I could look up the information. I would be fishing out of Orange Beach, Alabama. Thank you for your information. God Bless.......

No regs I'm aware of. Just beware that while in state waters you may have additional regs to deal with besides those imposed by nmfs. The size and catch limits could be different for example.

Some people vcatch them right off the beach up here. It's not uncommon to get them less than a mile off the beaches while drifting.

I'm sure the bathers would be thrilled you are hanging chum over though.

Hey Tator I believe their is a law in Bama that you have to be 300 yards of the beach, which is why we go to Florida to fish shark from the beach.

In the NE area we need a National Marine Fisheries permit for tuna and sharks. You may need the same thing in your area. www.nmfspermits.com

Tator,

Not neccesary to chum, just put out some bait and they'll come. Bonnett heads are my favorite shark to eat.
