Default Trolling Question

I know this is a novice question but I am new to the offshore Florida fishing. I came from a 9 mile freshwater lake. I troll using skirted Ballyhoo and I need to ask how may RPM's to drive. Now I do 10-1200 RPM's and the hoo skip across the top of the water. Am I trolling to fast? Should I put an egg sinker and let it sink a bit?

What are you fishing for and what speed are you going at 1000 to 1200 rpm?

I usually troll 1300-1500 depending on sea conditions. You want the ballyhoo skipping. BTW, I would troll at least 1 naked ballyhoo. In my experience, a naked gets hit more often. You can rig a small egg sinker under the head to get it under the water, though I never have. Might be a good idea to troll several different ways to see what works for you. The real key is knowing where to troll.

Thanks for the replies. I am trolling for Kingfish and anything that hits.
