One option being examined is the Jerry Brown hollow core braid. On a Shimano 50 LRS I could get 900 yds plus 30 meters of leader . . . what do you think ?
Thanks . . .

I just strung up some Power Pro 80# HC and spliced in some 50# Momoi Diamond. The stuff was really cool to play with. It makes loops easy and splices pretty well once you get the hang of it AND a set of splicing needles (can't do it without them) I spliced 10' in about 20 minutes watching tv.

Hollow core spectra is much smaller than dacron. Makeing your splices and connections almost seamless.
When buying hollow core... Jerry Brown all the way. Compare the two side by side and you'll see the difference.

Do you use the white or coloured hollow braid . . . they tell me that the adhesive works better on the white which has no colour added to it?

I personally use both green, hivis, and white. The white line is the purest form and is hivis to boot.
Spectra fibers are white and slicker than teflon so color can not be absorbed into the spectra. Companies have found that they can color spectra by adding "something" to coat the spectra. Power Pro uses a wax base, FINS uses PRT, Jerry Brown uses an acrylic base.
Now.. take 2 wax candles and try and glue them together... it can't be done. I know it's a different type of wax but the result is the same. So you need an adhesive system that will break down the "base" and allow the "glue" to adhere to the mono and "weld/bond" it to the spectra. This is exactly what the 2 part Jerry Brown Adhesive One system does. There's a bonding agent and there's an adhesive. Other glues appear to work but when tested under load, they fail.
So if you are using a colored line from JB, his system will work. With a white spectra, IMO the bond will be stronger since it doesn't have the color barrier to contend with.
That's why I suggest white
Now with a custom crimp system, it really doesn't matter what the spectra is coated with. These tools and custom sleeves are NOT cheap. But then again, neither is offshore fishing

Hi August,
It sounds fine to me unless you get a record fish, Total length for from main line to hook is 40feet, I dont crimp my dacron. I would normally use a bimini twist to terminate, although if you have no intention of going for records use the nylon inside the dacron splice.
