Was there in March, best fishing was trolling stretch 30's at the 12 mile rigs, red/white and greem/blue...wahoo to 65lbs and all the blackfin the cooler would hold, big grouper in 100ft of water on the rigs out of tiger pass....have FUN....Mick

here's the report...i MAY have some pix later this week if i can find the camera i think i left on the cleaning table at venice marina. the digital met a watery demise on day one...

friday slacker pete & myself fished with my friend steve on his 25 parker
fished MP rigs from 299 on in to 41
steve dove two rigs and shot a 50+# AJ and a 40+# gag grouper
we topped off the box with another nice gag, a red grouper, two nice mangroves and a decent beeliner
would have had an EASY red snapper limit, all released till april 21!
nice dinner and way too many cold drinks at cypress cove that night...

saturday fished on my 19 pacific with slacker pete and another buddy rich...steve headed home to fight with his wife
got a LATE start due to inertia from friday's festivities and socked in by fog
we were going to run south pass to the 12 mile rigs and pull some baits, but went to plan B
about 8am decided to give it a go, made it about halfway down baptiste collette and had to pull up and wait...genius me decided to tie up to a channel marker and idled up onto a rock pile (the new skeggard paid for itself!!)
no harm, no foul...was able to follow a crewboat out the pass where the fog lifted nicely to flat calm seas
decided to go for the sure thing and back to MP41...first bait in and it was on
six beautiful gags (10- 12# range), two nice mangroves (slacker pete's weighed in at 10.5#!), and another catch and release triple limit of red snapper...
had to cull thru a minimum of 30 bull reds to get to them...that got real old after a while
no cobia came up in the chum, that was the only bummer

sore backs, shredded fingers, and a big box of meat was our reward
back at it THU & FRI weather permitting, with a new camera!
