Default changing Generator oil from regular oil to syntheic

Is there any issue if you change diesel generator oil from regular oil to synthetic. The generator has approximately 350 hours on it.
thanks

As long as it meet the mfg specs - most synthetics don't - it should be just fine.

As stated above, WHY?

To the best of my knowledge none of the diesel mfgs. suggest them. I'd stick with what is recommended by your genset manufacturer. You wouldn't want to do anything that might void the warranty.

I'm a believer in synthetics. Many years ago I was an engine/transmission rebuilder for a Caterpillar Dealer, and there was this one particular company that replaced their engines/transmissions with remans like clockwork at 15,000 hours. They ran Royal Purple synthetic in all of their stuff, and when I rebuilt their trade-ins, they were in unbelievably good condition. Honestly, none of their stuff even needed replacement, and this is equipment that worked inside a fly ash warehouse in Texas with the temperature averaging 120 degrees.

With the oil change requirements on boats (not many hours), I'm not so sure synthetic is really worth the extra cost. Boats tend to work oil a lot harder than in a truck. I have seen synthetic Rotella in 5 gallon pails, I have Cats, and it has Cat approval, but I know standard oil works just fine. Do I want to find out the hard way synthetic's not as good? I'll stick with regular oil.

The generator is a Westerbeke diesel and my diesel engines are MAN. Man requires Mobil 1 Delvac 5-40w only. It runs $40 a gallon but you only have to change engine oil every 200 hrs. Everything I have read synthetics are much better for the engines although they cost more.
