Default Describe your perfect trolling rod......

If you were looking for the "perfect" trolling rod, what would you look for?

Rod: Solid glass? E-glass? E-glass with solid tip? other? Black? White? (do you care about the color?)

Butt: Stand up? Bent? Interchangeable?

Guides: Roller? Ring? Roller stripper & tip w/ rings between? Black? chrome?

Right when I finished writing it, I thought to myself: someone's gonna say "one with a fish on it"
You Da Man!

Fishermans outfitter short stroke stand up rods, 80-130 pound, with a tiagra 50wide filled with 130 lb JB. Black with gold wraps.

Depends on what I am trolling for................................Am I using wire line for bass down deep, mahi and albies in the mudhole, or yellowfin at the edge???? I basically have three sets of trolling rods and reels. The one thing they all have in common is top quality components......

Good point....My primary quarries are Mahi & Wahoo in the mid-atlantic (NC).
The reason for my question is that I'm bored and hate TV, so I was thinking of trying my hand at building a couple of rods. I have some pretty good 50-80 stand ups, and a slew of 15-40 "boat rods". I figure I'll start by building a couple of mid sized rods for Wahoo & Mahi, probably in the 30-50 range, since the tidewaters that I have pretty well cover the "light work". If that works out, maybe I'll build a bunch of 15-40's to replace the cheap ones.

For offshore I use the Stalker Custom Series 6', 50/80 stand-up rods, Calstar blanks and Aftco rollers and straight unibutt with Tiagra 50s and Moimi 60# Diamond Blue line. I've been very happy with them so far. They have a 30/50 version too that is a little lighter and would be great for the mahi and wahoo.
