Default Atlantis Recommendations?

Hey everyone,

Just wonder if someone could share how they booked an affordable vacation at Atlantis in the Bahamas. I'll have my wife and two kiddies along (4 and 7). I figure I can fish a few days and they won't be bored. Not sure I can swing it, but I keep hearing that there are some affordable options to staying at the resort itself.

Appreciate it.

Joe

I am seen numerous ad's for cheap stays at Atlantis. I didn't read the details since we have already visited the resort on two occasions. There is a huge price drop during the off-season period.

Off season is the only way to save..........................Our Family of 4 in the Royal Towers basic room is 800 a night in April........we have gone a couple of times while the kids are on Spring break.....Then add in another grand for airfare and yet another 1500 for food and drinks and you have a 8000 dollar week of sun and fun.......Oh yeh throw in another grand or so if you are a fan of the craps table!

You could stay next door at the Comfort Inn for about half the money and you have full use of the Atlantis grounds.....That is an option? We only go away once a year and like to go top shelf so I bite the bullet........This year we are going to spend a week with Mickey instead......My kids are now 8 and 10 so I have avoided that place as long as my wife would allow. If I had the chance I would head back to the Islands................

We stayed at the Comfort Inn last April. We were actually closer to the water park than some parts of the Atlantis resort. It doesn't have to be expensive if you don't want it to be. The places inside Atlantis are definately overpriced, but outside it isn't that bad. One of the best meals we had was from a local place that delivered to our hotel room and was also the cheapest. We did spend money on a tour, but I can't remember the name of it. There are two of them and they both cost about the same and are very similar. They take you by high speed jet boat to their own private island for a day of feeding sharks, buffet lunch, open bar, snorkeling, etc. Our tour was the one that has a wild pig on their island. It was the best time we had there and worth the money, about $165.00 per person. Check the internet for specials. If you call when you get down there and ask for the internet special, they will give it to you and you should wait because if there's a chop on the water, you don't want to go. Your kids might be too young to go, I don't remember. If I was going back, I think I would stay at one of the resorts closer to the airport. They seemed a bit quieter, more relaxed, a little classier. If you wanted to go to Atlantis and use the water park, there is a bus that will take you there and for a fee you can use the facilities for the day.

Thanks guys. I think if we decide we can do it, either comfort in or one of those closer to the airport will be the way to go. Royal towers sounds nice, but no way I can swing it -- got to save some money for the fishing you know!

Went on a disney cruise over thanksgiving-
we did a day trip to atlantis-
Lets just say I am not the cruise type nor the atlantis type-
If your going to the bahamas why would you go to a tourist trap with a million other tourists? For most guys on this site -thats not the bahamas scene we want to picture.
We had 7,6,4 and 2.5 year old kids with us-maybe that was my problem...

If you are looking for a peaceful place to relax where the only company you will have on the beach is a Corona and an iguana.....then Atlantis is not for you............Now if you want a place with hundreds of people spread over hundreds of acres, 20 pools, (one of which is adult only with a bunch of 20 something year old topless chicks prancing around) 25 restaurants, (some 5 star) 20 bars, a casino, a nightclub, arcade, movie theater, an aquarium that will rival any in the US, 3 ocean beaches, a bay beach, a water park and water slides that again will rival anything in the US, a marina with mega yachts, nightly entertainment throughout the resort, band poolside during the day, year round nice weather, and a place that you could feel reasonably comfortable letting your 8-10 year old and up kids wander around ..............then Atlantis might be for you. Oh yeh, bring your wallet, credit cards, ATM card and any cash you can get your hands on because it ain't cheap!

thanks guys. I have been sending your responses to my wife -- she's fascinated by the responses. I told her "if you want to know how to do it right, ask the fisherman and boaters!"

Why spend your hard earned dollars sharing your vacation with 5,000 people from Philadelphia? I'd highly suggest going to Georgetown, Exuma. US Airways goes there. Check this out. I've stayed here. Stocking Island is spectacular for kids. Bonefish guides are plentiful. Do your homework, save money.

Just Google Georgetown, Exuma and start studying. You'll be happier.

Do yourself a favor and take the fast ferry to Harbor Island. Incredible bonefishing as well as offshore fishing there. Google "Daddy D" Harbour Island, he's the resident DJ and fishing guide. Fishes out of a Contender 27 and can put you on some incredible Tuna and Mahi. The fast ferry leaves out of Paradise Island, goes over in the AM and returns every afternoon.
Harbour Island is definitely worth visiting any way, much more of the true Bahamian culture, with a bit of "lives of the rich and famous" built in. The pink sand beach is probably one of the most photographed in the Bahamas, and if your're lucky, you might catch a modeling shoot somewhere on the island. I've personally come in contact with both Tommy Lee Jones(the actor), as well as Jimmy Buffet on Harbour Island. Bonefish Joe Cleary and his son are both great bonefish guides there also.

The Atlantis is a beautiful resort, with aquariums and fish pools everywhere around the complex. It is extremely expensive although you might find some okay deals with the soft economy. Like several people have said the outer islands are much more relaxing but to each his own. Have fun whatever you decide.

We leave Christmas morning for Nassau... staying at Sheraton Cable Beach for about 320 a night for 2, Spiritair from AC for about $800 for 2... two days bonefishing at $500 a day... by the time we are done, we are only at 75% with the fishing of the Atlantis holiday rate cost...

Atlantis is beautiful, and we have stayed there a couple times.... but in the off season...
