Default destin/santa rose beach

i'm going to be in santa rosa beach the weekend of april 2- 4
should i trailer my boat over?

there's a marina (mid-bay marina) right at the mid bay bridge about 15 mi from where i'll be staying that rents overnite slips

is the fishing right now worth the hassel? any pointers?

cgrand,

You're coming to my backyard. The marina at mid-bay bridge is Legendary Marina. It's a nice facility, about 5 miles from Destin Pass and the gulf. The closest marinas to the pass are located in Destin Harbor http://www.harborwalk-destin.com/ . Baytowne in Sandestin is a little closer to Santa Rosa and has a full-up marina also http://www.sandestin.com/sandestin.asp?cat_id=15 .

The cobia run should be starting to heat up when you get here. The gulf temp is still a little cold, but a couple of fish have already been landed. If you like to bottom fish, you should be able to find grouper and snapper (red snapper season is closed until 15 April) on most of the artificial reefs in the area. I'm sure the folks at Legendary will be able to put you on some fish - a lot of folks fish the bay around mid-bay bridge, but I have no experience there.

i have the hilton's offshore atlas for the area which shows reefs, wrecks, etc
i'll have my dog & my girlfriend with me so likely i'll bottom fish

wanna spill some spots?

I am familiar with the area also but man I am not a local. So keep that in mind. The run from Baytowne to the Destin Pass to get off shore is a haul, but there is also the spring break crowd in so I would err towards Baytowne. Harbourwalke in Destin is within a half mile of the pass. Town will be full of Spring breakers but the only thing for them near the harbor is the restaurants (and some bars). It would mean a difference of about 20 minutes I'm guessing from Legendary Marine (nice people) to the pass or maybe twice that (?) from Baytowne.

HArbourwalk is has a reasonable dock rate just call first and say go 'noles the owner is a big time noles fan and a nice guy, he is Russell Wamble http://www.destinharborinn.com (and Marina) 850-837-6171.

Hope this helps.

My spots are all public - I'll send you an email.

I have no preference on the marinas, haven't used either. I trailer my boat and usually put in at Fred Gannon State Park (close to the northern landing of mid-bay bridge).

You cannot beat Harborwalk Marina for convenience to the pass. The people there are great also. We always stop there for ice/bait prior to heading out.
