Default Happy Birthday OBSFC

I received the following email Friday morning following the Thursday night (monthly) meeting of the Onslow Bay Saltwater Fishing Club in Swansboro, NC. It was sent out by Captain Stanman and thought I would share it with you guys:

Last night marked 1 year that we had been organized, and what a year it was.

The first meeting was at the Moose Club, John McDow and I set up for 35 people, 85 of you showed up and 62 of you joined.

You took 76 Iraqi Freedom Veterans fishing on 26 boats owned by members, Chairman was Lee Buck.

You started a Reef Fund Committe headed up by Captain Dennis Tait. You not only raised $3000 in a year, in a few weeks you will be replenishing AR 342 with 2 boat loads of concrete pipe. Can you believe that after 8 months of being formed?

200 of you chose to join our Club in 2003, thats about 500 family members, incredible.

You get a Weekly Fishing Forecast.

You had a Fish Fry at Camp Emahenwu for the Counselors and the Kids; gave the Counselors Gift Certificates, Garry Mauldin headed up this committee.

You caught some NC Citation Fish and Capt. Larry Leuthauser presented the winners with plaques.

You had a very succesful Flounder Tournament for Members Only that was run by Captain Jeff Cronk. The flounder were saved for the Camp Fish Fry.

Jim Wellborn headed up a Committee to re-write the NC Recreational Saltwater Fishing License, Jim has now been selected by State Senator Scott Thomas to rewrite the Bill and act as a resource for Thomas' committee.

You have selected 3 Fun King Tournaments in 2004 that will be headed up by Frankie Winberry, all the proceeds to go to the Reef Fund.

The Reef Fund made lunch for the Onslow Bay Open KMT on Sunday during the Awards, the BBQ Turkey made by Eris Jones was outstanding. In 2004 each boat will get 4 Lunch Tickets and the Reef Fund will receive $25 for each boat entered from the Tournament Committee.

You outgrew 2 meeting places and now have a challenge to fill up the Rotary Civic Center.

You now have your own website

The OBSFC Women will be having a Fashion to Fitness Show on 3/10 for the Young Ladies at Camp Emanhenwu, 12 different companies donated products for this event that is chaired by Honey Norlander.

You dug in your pockets and came up with $1500 for the hurricane victims of Down East Carteret County, Honey Norlander turned this into $3000 when Wachovia Bank matched our Funds. You also donated canned products for the hurricane victims.

The Onslow Bay Open KMT gave the Reef Fund $1743 and gave the Kids at Camp Emanhenwu $15,000, thanks for you support of the tournament.

You impressed the SKA with your hard work and dedication and as a result the OBO KMT will be nationally televised by the SKA.

You partnered with the Swansboro Rotary Club and are working with the Rotary to assist in promoting their events.

Thats all that I can think of, if I missed something, let me know.

If you would like to join us, go to print off an app. and mail it with $25 to cover all your immediate family up to age 18.

Submitted by Captain Stan Jarusinski an honor to be the President of the OBSFC.
