71.8 - by one of the Delph brothers. Unfortunately all members of the boat were NOT members of the SKA so the boat, motor and trailer package awaiting anyone who breaks an SKA state record is not affected. Still one big fish, congratulations.

I was reading about this on Captain Stanman's forum:
http://www.captainstanman.com/forum/...?TOPIC_ID=1364

If all on onboard were not members I guess they would lose out on more prize money.
Will this be a new state record?

The Florida (and world) record - according to the Florida Sportsman website - is 90 pounds.

I heard about this Saturday, what a fish. I hate they left so much money on the table (at least $30k I believe). Its not like they will ton it winning the Naples KMT. Still, I would love to see a fish like that on the end of my line.

I had a chance to see that fish up close and in person on Saturday. I had just weighed our 23.11 off the Dirty Laundry when those guys came rolling up with theirs. Phrases like "Freak of Nature" apply to this fish--it was truly monstrous. Huge head, very thick-bodied fish that carried her weight from the shoulders all the way back to the tail. There are photos of it posted over on the FL Sportsman forum. From what we heard, those guys were somewhere down off the Tail End.

Looks like the overall record for the SKA doesn't belong to NC or Louisiana any more, but instead to South Florida.

FishDancer: After checking the records, it appears that the world record kingfish is 93 pounds, caught off San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1999

No problem Jeff, just had to bust your chops for a minute. Here's the address for a pretty good photo of that record fish if you want to post it for everyone. Good luck this season!

Actually Swami, my understanding is that since all memebers were not SKA members this fish does not change the SKA record. Might be wrong but that is what I was told.

Kirk:
The story's up on the SKA site and Jack is calling it a new record, but personally I agree with you. There was apparently only one registered person on the boat, which was a requirement of the tournament.
Not to worry though, the commercial guys catch them that big off Hatteras in the winter, so you boys will have your shot soon enough
Tight lines this season,

Sam

I guess I am wrong on the record part. It is being touted on the SKA site as a new record.
