Default Re-location

I'm getting fed up with the New England weather and hope to re-locate in the near future to somwhere warmer. Ie Florida Georgie etc.

Where is the best location to relocate to that offers up great offshore fishing year round for Tuna,Marlin,Mahi Mahi.

Is the Atlantic coast of Florida more productive for these species than the Gulf coast?

I vote for Atlantic side, southeast Florida. I'll come down to help on the 60 mile run to the Bahamas.

I have a Home in Cape Coral on the west coast which offers more flats fishing them anything.n This is S/W Fla just north of Ft Myers,

You would be much better off on the east coast for what you want.

You might take a trip to S/W and try the flats fishing. Fun stuff.

Venice is about 50 miles south of New Orleans right on the Mississippi. It is just a short run to the gulf and deep water. Great fishing year round, especially yellow and black fin tuna in the winter. Last memoral day weekend an 1100 lb Blue fin was caught just off the delta. Great offshore fishing for wahoo, dolfin and marlin. The bay fishing in this area is also excellent for trout and redfish.

The down side, if you don't fish, there isn't much else to do and it is a pretty long drive to New Orleans. I think there are 2 motels, a couple of cafes, no movie theaters and no night life. No upscale housing or sub-divisions. I would guess the permanent population is less than 2000. It is at the end of the road, nothing but swamp south of Venice and a lot of orange groves north of there. The only industry I noticed were commercial fish houses, marinas and boat sales and service. There is probably some offshore oil industy related businesses there also.

It is a fisherman's paradise.

Codfather,
Come on down to south FL. I moved from NY in Sept and missed that great winter you had up there. Gulf stream is just a few miles off the beach, and mahi season will be in full swing in about a month (so I'm told). You can fish all year round, and the keys are close by. The continental shelf is the closest down here, so tuna are not far off (at least you're not running 80 miles to Hudson canyon).
Send me an e-mail if you want to discuss further.
