I have more than a few, both inshore and offshore. The exact number is classified

Eddie Carmen and Biscayne Rod Co. is a top notch operation. The workmanship is super and your options are almost unlimited. Just don't expect them to build you a custom rod in 3 days! -- they do it right and that takes time. He is a 3rd generation rod builder and you can tell him what you want and he'll build it, or you can let him ask you some questions and take it from there, based on his recommendations.

What exactly are you looking for?

I've been dealing with the Carmine family for over 20 years. I had them build over 10 rods for me in 1992 when all my tackle was stolen after Hurricane Andrew and I'm still using those rods. I also build my own rods and have zero complaints about their business. Before Eddie took over the business, his brother Kenny ran the company. Both Kenny and Eddie, who worked at the shop, were forced into the leadership of the business after their father, Karl, a Metro Dade firefighter died while fighting a fire.

They are horrible It has taken me 45 Biscayne Rods to come to that decesion. All kidding aside Ed makes one of the finest rods that money can buy. I swear buy one and you will be addicted. I actually have a sponsor who gives me rods for my chartering buisness and I STILL use and buy Biscayne. They are a great bunch of people to deal with and you will get an education on what it really is to make a rod. I have used them all Star Rods, Chaos rods, etc and there is nothing like Biscayne Rods. Once they have built your rod and you go fishing take notice of what rod you will always reach for. Alright I guess I like them. Oh by the way wait about a week before you go down there because he is building me 2 rods and I don't want him interrupted. Tell him Capt. Gil sent you.

They build very good rods, but are top dollar. If you check out your local rodbuilders you might get what you want for a bit less.... That said, if it's knowledge you need and someone to build exactly what you want, they've been top drawer for many years. I've been building rods for many years and I can spot one of theirs, even if it's thirty years old, they're very distinctive and always use good quality hardware.

Disclaimer, no I don't build rods for customers any more, but still do some repair work if I have the time. I still build every rod on my skiff, though.

I'm like Capt Gil, I get rods from a sponsor for my charters and love them, but I was looking for a special purpose rod (4) and went to Biscayne.
They hooked me right up and hope to fishing these rods with customers in a few weeks.

It was very hard to find a 8' fiberglass blank, trigger reel seat, foam grips, with the action I was looking for.

Biscayne had just what I was searching for. Not cheap rods, but from what I heard from a buddy, they won't be my last.
He has 4 and the quality he said is addictive.
