Default Best boat spinning rod - offshore

What do you guys have as your bailing rods for offshore fishing. I want to keep a couple of spinning rods on the boat for those cobia and mahi sightings. Looking for something to spool a bunch of 25-50 lb braid or at least 20lb mono. For that matter, what do you spool on your boat rods too? Not trying to go too light but don't want to have to try and cast a 30wide!

I would go with one of the bigger Okuma V Series best reel for the money out there.

Try the fin nor 90 offshore reel with their rod. The reel wil hold 600 yd of 100lb braid or 600 yd of 20lb mono. It is said to have 65lb of drag. I've bought the rod & reel from Tackle direct but haven't had the chance to use it yet

Agree with the fin nor, and add Shimano spheros and Quantum cabo to the list.

Uh... you asking about rods or reels? Your subject line says "Best spinning rod - offshore", not reel.

For a rod, I'd go with a rod built on a composite blank, either a Calstar Graphiter or Seeker Black Steel. They're light and strong as all get out!

For a Calstar, look at a Graphiter 700L (20lb) or ML (25lb). For Seeker, a G970.

You can get them as finished rods, or have one built custom on a blank.

As far as reels go, I use a Penn 650SSm for my "pitch" rod. A 6000 sized Shimano or Cabo 60 should work as well.

Tightlines,

PB

as for reels, you can't go wrong with a Daiwa BG60 or 90. Inexpensive(relatively), built like a tank, time tested design. Spool it up with 30# braid and you'll have tons of line capacity and still be able to cast it a good distance.

Agree with the Spheros and Quantum. I have both and I like the Quantum Cabo much better than the Spheros.

get some shimano baitrunners, wont break the bank, great line capacity will last forever, smoth everything and the bait runner feature is great when you are drifting.

spheros. simple, strong drag, solid body, no gimmicks to breakdown. Just swap out the right side bushing on the drive gear to ball bearing and its almost as solid as the Stella.... though not as smooth. For rods I like them cheap as they get banged around a lot. I tried the Okuma blue diamond rod 7 ft..... I now have 4. Brings in a 30 lb Mahi no problem as only the tip of the rod bends....lots of backbone and super light.

Best is a Chaos XSTSP built on a Calstar Grafighter blank in 15-30. Have mine with a Stella 10000 and spooled with 65# braid. When I pitch a bally to a big bull he's going in the box.

I use Shimano 6500's on Tallus rods. I recently purchased Crowder spinners and those will carry Stella's. If your on a budget buy the 6500's if not buy the Stellas, they are awesome.

Trevela spinning rod rated for 30 to 65 PowerPro. Daiwa BG 30 spooled with 30# PowerPro - great for jigging & throwing - extremely light weight but with backbone to land most fish.
Billfisher spinning boat rod rated for 3oz. with Daiwa BG 60 spooled with 30# PP.
Both can also be used for trolling because of line capacity..............ICM

Penn Slammer and a 7500 with 25#, all around perfect for me.

I am leaning toward the Penn SS serioes or the Diawa BG. Don't want to break the bank on my spinning rods! Thanks for all of the ideas!!
