This "current" image came across the satellite back at the end of Feb / beginning of March and represents the perfect scenario. The counter clockwise eddy spinning off the main Loop pushed hot water into cool water and upwelling altimetry numbers that make you salivate. Not to mention the onshore flow across the southern end of The Steps. Unfortunately, it was late Feb and the sea state was 4-6ft and blowing 15-20 or more. Oh if that was in June, July, or Aug...

Was out fun fishing and king fishing Sunday. Wahoo came right up to the boat while we worked a small pod of bait in 160'. Estimated it to be 30-40# Wahoo, tried everything we had. He didn't want anything we threw at him. He stuck around for 10-15mins and swam off. Trolled that area with some lures for about 1hr and nothing hit. I will try that area again next time I am out that way.

Where would you guys concentrate trolling efforts?

Balla,
That's the million dollar question. Maybe some of the guys who chimed in recently will answer you with their experience.

That’s a great question. Best bet is to watch for things like Brinkley just posted and concentrate there. Good current, temp breaks, etc.

How far out did you have to run?

We were on the 40 fathom line. I think that's about 80 miles from the bridge.

Overnight and 240'. We started trolling at 6:30 and had the 1st wahoo in 5 minutes. We were trollling 2 Nomads and 2 surface baits. Wahoos came on the Nomads and tuna were on both. We trolled at 6 mph. It was a great start to the day for sure. We trolled about 3 hours total.

Trolled an area where I've done well for Blackfins. 1st Fish came off a 200 Spanish mackerel Pattern. 2nd came off same pattern but 165 size. 2nd fish hit about 9:00 and we quit trolling after that.

That's awesome. Getting it done on a Seahunt 25 Gamefish what others can't get done in yellowfins and Freeman's. Good job and thanks for sharing!

Awesome work!

Just waiting for it to lay down to make our trip. Been a rough spring.

Any luck on the bottom?

Grouper was kind of slow. We did not go to the peaks like I wanted. So other than a Scamp we got 4 Reds. Lots of short Reds.

I was thinking too. Not looking great. Over this wind!

Edit: Saturday

East winds around 10 knots. Seas 2 feet.

Looks a little better.
