Default Not fished much for the last 10 years, but gearing back up, what hooks to use???

Long story but divorce years ago ended my fishing. Brother In law moved here bought a boat and we are gearing up. I still have a great supply of J hooks and decent amount of offset circle hooks (pretty much illegal now) what brand and size of circle hooks are best (and legal).

Bottom fishing west coast and keys for snapper and grouper. We use pins, white bait, frozen sardines and sometimes cut bait. We do go deep 200ft + when the weather allows.

Also hooks/jigs size for Yellow tails for a mid April trip to the keys. Do jigs tipped with cut bait shrimp need to be circle hooks??

I would like to order a supply of hooks online, without holding them in my hand I don't know what size and style to buy. Haven't used circle hooks much in the past.

Thanks for helping a brother out.

I started using Gamakatsu circle hooks last year and have had really good luck with them. The "Octopus" hooks seem to work really well for bottom fishing, casting at Mahi, and chunking for Tuna. They seem to be very sharp out of the package and they stay sharp. For rigging Ballyhoo, I still use Mustad 7961s. I have a bunch of them and have not had to buy anything lately.

Good idea, I have a decent supply of the offsets. But definitely need to stock up on new hooks. I will order some VMC's as recommended.

What hook for fishing with shrimp and small pieces of cut bait?

What hook for Yellowtails?

visit the local tackle store or the boat launch and see/talk to see what the locals are using-buy the best you can afford for the type of fishing you mentioned above

VMC, Gamakatsu, and Mustad Demon are all good stuff. I pefer VMC but use all of these. All have stupid sharp non-offset circles. The size hook has more to do with the size of your bait then the intended species your targeting.
