Need live well - Without a live well

ISSUE: Boat we just bought did not come with a live well (52 Viking). We knew that. So no comments to that effect please.

CONCERN: We fish the eastern GoM, and we do use live bait on occasion. Obviously need a live well.

QUESTION: What is a viable non-permanent solution for a live well?

I've seen the circular ones used in Hatteras/keys and elsewhere. I don't want to add extra thru hull(s) or more plumbing under the deck. Just something "portable" but with sufficient capacity (say 30gal) to keep some live bait kicking for the gulf fishing we do (Pinfish, threadfins, runners etc)

Thanks and look forward to inputs.

Maybe

Raw water wash down hooked up to can and strainer on inside to let overflow onto deck?

Dont
use your wash down pump. You will kill it in one trip. You CAN put a T on the wash down thru Hull to a better pump and run it to an on deck well. I have this setup for tournaments and the overflow line is just put into the deck scupper. Iíll send photos when I can.

I have used a recirculating baitwell for years. Grayline or SuperBait tank with filtration system is far better than a flow-through design for bait health. Less loss of slime coat and controlled aeration. Add some Shad Saver or equivalent and a little Foam Off and never look back. I have kept pogies, herring, and even squid alive for days. Change about 1/2 the water daily and add a little (chlorine-free) ice for the hot days.

I replaced the washdown pump with a Shurflow Bait Sentry 800, it screws right into my thru -hull. On deck the raw water line splits, one line goes to my portable 40 Gal live well, the other goes to my washdown nozzle. Piece of cake.

not my preferred method now but on one of my previous boats i used a washdown pump to run my live well which I primarily fished with large and densely packed live baits for many years and never had to replace the pump, worked beautifully
