Nice fish. But forgive my ignorance, can a state record be caught with a electric winch?

Depends on the state. Alot of the times it being on a hook and line from a rod and reel is the only requirement. When you start talking IGFA records you start getting into the technicalities like the rod never touching the gunwale, the hand off from mate to angler (if there is one) being done a specific way, the fight being done 100% by human power, only specific terminal tackle used, etc. Even landing the fish would need to be done in a specific way.

And if the angler farts it's an automatic disqualification.

Good question. I don't do swordfishing but from what I have seen it seems the rod pretty much stays in the holder and you let the reel just drag the fish up

Nice fish though.

Some of these reels are ridiculous. It's a winch on a rod and you push a button. Why can't commercial guys get same records? Anyways, it's an awesome fish.
