Default what to use these reels for.

Ive unexpectedly acquired 2 avet lx 6.0s and a 5.8 mxl. What style of fishing would you guys set these up for? I mainly troll offshore or fish wrecks/reefs in 300' or less.

King macks for sure, not sure if they would hold up to a sailfish or not. My gut says not but I haven't tried it.

The LX is great for trolling as your WWWB line with its really quick retrieve - this is how i use mine in the same waters you fish and love it. It also works really well bottom fishing for the same reason.

Can't speak to the MXL.

They work well for light trolling, live bait trolling, and freelining. Kings especially but also mahi, sailfish, blackfin, etc. They can be used for bottom fishing but they are not intended for that with the high gear ratios and under high drag you will eventually wear out the pinion bearings. They're very easy to take apart and clean. If specifically used for kings the blue marlin drag update is a great upgrade that reduces the very steep drag curve.

Well ive decided ill use the LXs for kingfish/light trolling reels. Ill most likely grab a pair of the connley kingfish 20-50's for them but would also like to know what you guys would pair them up with. Still undecided on what to do with the mxl.

I have a pair of small fast aluminum reels on penn rampage jigging rods. I use them for run and gun dolphin trolling rods and for vertical jigging, Great rods and reels for most everything we catch. And you know it if you put them out in a marlin spread it will be the rod that gets hit!!! The fight would be Iffy and sporty!!! But most likely short.

MXL's make really good Striped Bass and Bluefish bait fishing reels in the Northeast, so they would work well in Florida for similar types of fishing for Amberjack, Cobia, King Mackerel, etc.

That rod is a near perfect match for the LX
