Default What’s your favorite HST hook?

I started using the QuickRig Koga hooks last year. Great hooks just super expensive. What’s everybody else using?

HST is the only fishing I use Mustads for.. 7732 open in SS. You're really just dragging and snagging and unless you get a slack line they stay in just fine and grab anything at that speed. I also only use a singles which drive some people crazy but out of all the Wahoo I've caught I can only think of 2 that I lost to a head strike where a front hook would have got the fish.

The 4X sword hooks from Catch-All have done good by me. $1.30 each for 10/0.

Regardless of the hook it’s up to you to have them sharp enough. Your HST hooks should be the sharpest tools in the quiver. Make sure there are no grinder striations or burrs to slow down the penetration.

I've also used these hooks in 11/0 mostly and some 10/0s. I have a couple of large lures that I have some 12/0's for special occasions.
I've had pretty decent luck with them but I've also had a couple of hooks break. I suspect it was micro fissures in the hooks and they get a little corrosion started then break.

Pictures or it didn’t happen. I’ve got at least 50 rigged with thousands of hours on the troll, no problems, ever. I have taken marlin where the barb wasn’t in the bill, just the point. That’s the heaviest point load you can put on a hook.

I may have a few on my rigging table, if I can ever get back down to the Bahamas. With lockdowns and 14 day quarantine it may be awhile. I've fished less this past 12 months than the last 12 years.

BTW, I once broke a 8" aftco flying gaff. I called aftco and they said they would absolutely replace it free of charge but they wanted the old one back to study why it broke. Same issue micro fissures at the bend and saltwater corrosion does it's dirty work.

Thats good customer support IMHO... more companies should want to learn how their products have failed in the field to be able to improve them in the long run. I have never had an issue with my AFTCO products, but its valuable knowing that I have a company that backs their products 100%.

I've got a mix of 7732s and 7691s. A couple years ago I started going to more single hook rigs with Mustad 7691 11/0. I started using single 11/0 kogas at the beginning of this year and they don't have much sample size but so far they are 100%. But I just got some tantrum x fudos and have pretty much decided to re-rig all my trolling lures with them.
