I am hopelessly a lefty myself. Cranking right-handed really screws the pooch.

I do things like write with my left hand but my right I use to throw and heavy lifting. I prefer that hand on the rod. Itís my stronger hand. In this age when most reels are 2 speed I donít know why more companies donít make left handed reels so people can control the rod with the dominant hand

Lefty here also.
I have smaller abu garcia 5500s in left hand for lake striper and about to invest in a 4 set of shimano torium 30 HGA left handed for offshore trolling and such.
Interesting that guys get on my boat and can't reel with left on a conventional, but use a left handed spinning reel with ease.

true and they complain but I can reel a righty as well so to bad for them I say haha. But honestly I donít get why companies donít make them. I would like a left hand Talica to add to the collection but I stay with accurate because the reels are awesome and they provide left hand crank in every model.

I am right handed, but left eye dominant, so I shoot bow and long gun left handed. However I only buy right handed actions, not that Iíve ever had to sell a gun. I fish left handed, as taught with a spinning reel, casting right handed and retrieving left. I have two right handed Shimano Torium 20 HGAís for guests, and two left hand for myself. Works for me. Just do not hand a left handed reel loaded with a fish to a right hand guy!

If you follow Triumph Ricks recent advice on Toriums, the new PG is now superior to the HGAís. His advice for Grouper fishing worked perfectly three years ago, but the PGís sound like the newest technology.

I was also considering 30ís, but he was correct, I did not need that much line for fishing under 150 feet.

Tight lines,

Zot

So nice to see such a group of confused individuals. For myself, I write left handed, throw a ball right handed, shoot a pistol right handed, shoot a rifle left handed, kick a ball left footed,...but when it comes to fishing reels it's all left handed for me. I have 4 Shimano 251's for light stuff and an old left handed Penn reel (can't remember the model, but it's about a 30 wide in size), and all my spinning reels are rigged left handed for me (my wife insists on hers being right handed so it makes differentiating reely easy). I have 2 Shimano 50 wides that are both right handed. So I never put any line on them yet. LOL.

All my smaller lever drags are left handed. All my low profile baitcasters are left handed. When I start getting 30s and up. Will be all left handed avets. Only downside is can't find used got to go new. And it also seems that right now avet is making lefties.. had one on order since may first. Still don't have it.. just switched the order to fill a need else where.. got tired of waiting.

This is a really tough situation when fishing "big game" or "offshore", especially if you fish on other people's boats. When trolling 10 lines, I can almost guarantee not all 10 of them are left handed cranks.

If you can reel a spinner in a standard left hand crank and reel a conventional in a right hand, you can make the switch. It's more of a mind over matter thing. You're better off adapting.

Now if it's your own boat and own rig, have at it.

Lefty here, IMO, this is the answer. You can't effectively fish with others, on another boat, or on any type of tournament team if you must use lefty.
I bought one lefty avet when I started and used it for about a week, it's not practical for offshore fishing, it's a team sport.

Conventional reels I reel right handed, but spinners I always reel left handed.
I have buddies that always say my spinner handle is backwards. But canít do it the other way

I am in the same camp...I only reel with my left hand for all of my reels...spinning, conventionals, and offshore reels. I currently have a full set of Penn Squall 60LDs in lefty...but will eventually moving to Avets.
