Catching fish with wings
Had a chilled out day on the harbour last week targetting Gurnard, a seriously tasty fish with wings!

Another countries version of a sea robin...??

I've never had the desire to eat a sea robin. But what do I know....

One man's trash is another man's treasure! At least his is much bigger than the sea robins I occasionally catch and release.

I hear it is good eating. Little ones are great flounder bait. We caught what would've possibly been a state record a few years back. was about 20" long had to weigh more than the state record that was about 2# 07-19-2020 01:22 PM

I just looked up Sea Robins, they do look like they are from the same family!

Your Gurnards look less spiny with a smoother skin than our Sea Robins . I've tried Sea Robins , they're good eating . Kind of a pita to fillet even a big one though . If anyone decides to try them the meat is grey but cooks up white .

You also find these all over Europe. In NJ we threw back hundreds of them while fishing for Fluke (summer flounder). Not so many here in the Gulf.

very popular for fish stews and fish stock. i've eaten several sea robins - they are definitely better than bluefish. not as good as fluke or seabass. pain to filet - but they are certainly not trash fish.

I think Paul McCartney used to do that on occasion.
