Default Tiagra 30WLRS spooling Advice

Looking for some help deciding what to spool my new 30’s with. Haven’t been in the game for 12 years. Thanks y’all in advance.

Mine have 100 yards or so of 80lbs mono and the rest 65lbs braid. I use it mostly for planer fishing.

IIRC they are optimized for 50# mono and 80# braid. Max drag is 34#s, so figure that in as well.

I have 500 yds of 80# braid and 100yds (+-) of 100# mono leader on mine.

If it where me, I would load it 2/3 full with 60-80 braid, Then tie it to 50# mono via a FG knot. and fill the rest of the way. The real advantage of the braid is to give you enough capacity, that it is unlikely you will get spooled before you can start chasing with the boat.

Hollow core braid with a mono topshot spliced on. No knots!

Optimally I agree, but for versatility I have used a Bimini Twist and loop to loop for top shots from BHP. Basil makes top shots of 200 yards or more and you can switch them out as needed.

I'd fill it with 130 hollow core braid and a spliced short 50 or 80lb mono top shot.
