Default Nearshore trolling baits

What do you reach for in the gulf nearshore trolling for Kings/Spanish/bonito etc.? I have lipped plugs, planers/drones, cedar plugs, dusters, and lipless plugs. Im a bottom fisherman mostly but I have some kids wanting to fish this week a little. Just curious about when and what the consensus is on nearshore bite getters.

For basic nearshore trolling where you are mostly likely to see kings or smacks, a ribbonfish on a three hook wire leader is the gold standard. You can church it up with a red skirt over the nose or some keel sinkers to help keep it down but I would imagine that setup has accounted for the vast majority of kings catches over the years.

Default Diamond Spoons!

Small spoons with a barrel swivel is all you’ll need, and if you want to cast to them, add a clear bubble float that you can fill with water...casts a mile!

I'm a big fan of the DTX minnows. Can troll pretty fast speeds.
As other's mentioned, ribbonfish on a 3 hook rig is tough to beat. My love for offshore began by catching King Mackerel on drifted ribbonfish in the Texas gulf.

Bonita: Billy Baits Turbo Slammer and Mini Turbo Slammer; P-Line Predator is devastating.

King Mack: Mack-a-hoo with fresh finger mullet; Yozuri 3D Magnum 7" sinking.

Dolphin: Billy Baits Turbo Slammer and Mini Turbo Slammer; Zuker grass.

Good luck, tell us how you do !
