Default Why did bass pro shops stop selling the Penn international 130 VIS?

I've been saving my gift cards for a while now and was about to pull the trigger on one. Yesterday I noticed the 80 was the largest available. I know Penn shut down and may still be shut down. I'm curious if this is just an inventory problem that's temporary or they didn't sell enough of them and it's a permanent exclusion. I sat on hold with bass pro shop customer service for over 20 minutes yesterday to ask but eventually gave up.

I would say their target clientele probably aren’t buying a lot of $1200 reels. I’ve stopped shopping at Bass Pro. Over the past decade, I feel they have got rid of so many quality products, only to replace them with their cheap knockoff brand. Sorry, that Offshore Angler graphite reek isn’t going to hold up to HST for wahoo, and I am not bringing that $99 Redhead fly rod combo on my Andros bonefishing trip. My local one even stopped stocking decent tackle, and all you can seem to find are their cheap hooks/jigs that just rust to hell.

Yeah it's pretty disappointing. I was getting a better value cashing my rewards points on bass pro gift cards than cash back. Mistakes were made. Worse case I'll just buy an 80 vis.

Bps shops moniter what they sell. If they dont sell enough to justify the space and the money it ties up it gone. It tipical corporate mentality.

Can you get it at Cabellas? I believe your Bass Pro gift cards can be used for purchases.

Good idea but they pulled them too. Also it says the 80 is backordered online and that even the 50s are limited stock. So maybe it's just a production thing with Penn being shut down so long.

I believe this shutdown will change the way bps will operate. I know there choise of what to sell is not a reagonal choise but whats good for the company as a hole . They been trading out top name for there brand copies. Like i said high priced brand names are being looked out . If a few stores sell 130 80 50 pen but the chane as a hole doesn't sell many there gone . It the corporate mentality. There doing what best for them . Even if a few stors will lose and will not be able to serve there costermer.

Most guys are going to smaller reels with braid like the Talicas and larger speedmaster 2s.

I use to make the trip to my local Cabela's couple of times a year but since BP took over ,it's no longer worth the trip, not much for offshore anything, no big game stuff, anymore and what is there now is junk. I live in Maine and they stopped selling a lot of things they shouldn't of to stock stuff they will never sell here, because we don't have that species of fish on our waters here.

That's what you get for buying your tackle from Bass Pro and not a real tackle shop.. no sympathy here

The corporate mindset doesn't allow for regional product availability and they will shy away from low turn high cost products like internationals

Where do you catch Bass that you need a 130 for? Asking for a friend.

Typical mentality? I should hope so. They're in business to make money. The average BP probably didn't sell one a year.

Because their bean counters aren't smart enough to realize that they aren't going to sell any in tennessee or missouri and they stocked them in virtually every store driving their numbers down
