Default Post Covid-19 Travel

Since we are beginning to see things open up in various states around the country, I think it deserves a thought.

When will you feel comfortable to travel again both out and about and international?

Ill start, currently we have a trip booked at the end of June to Central America for two months. That is well before a vaccine will be available and personally I'm ok with that. Not looking for advise but curious what others think about their personal travels and feels towards what you are comfortable with personally.

The flight attendants union have asked for a ban on leisure travel. https://thehill.com/homenews/campaig...-travel-due-to

Flying to any less developed country from a medical perspective is foolhardy, IMO. We won't consider flying for most, if not all of this year, perhaps longer. May not drive to Florida to see future granddaughter expected mid July.

You have no control over you getting to go at this point.
I would not invest to go anywhere right now. Your destination may not allow you to go and you may not be able to come home when you want.

Bottom line you nor anyone else knows what the F is going to be going on in this country much less a foreign one.

Personally, no way in hell.

It would be like going to Iran before the Virus. You may have no control over your situation.

I will require two things before I will travel within the USA by automobile: an immunization type of vaccination which has an effective rate of 50% or better, and an effective treatment to greatly reduce the deadly complications of the virus (much like we have now for the flu). I may never fly again, or travel to a foreign country unless the risks can be successfully mitigated. That does not appear to be likely for a considerable period of time.

I've been traveling all over SE via car for work and not stopping. Traveled personally to second home via car in early April. Flying to second home in late May. I may fly to my home in the Rockies in July or August but not booked yet.

Probably will not travel internationally until 2021 but that could change if things stabilize.

Call me crazy but I am jonesing to go to Costa Rica for a week and do some fishing. I have been working 60+ hrs a week since this crap started and need a getaway. I have airline vouchers, a few bucks saved up and I imagine it will be cheap once things open up.

Costa Rica has done very well through this , and is apparently past the peak with far more recoveries than new cases daily. we been only adding 2 to 3 new cases a day for the past week and having far more recoveries daily (10-20).
we only have had 697 cases reported nationwide, and 6 deaths as of April 27. we have had similar lockdown and quarantine rule as USA with closed borders, closed beaches ,most bars and restaurants are closed. and driving restrictions. and the coastal tourism towns like Jaco are dead quiet.
they are beginning to allow business to reopen, but won't help much without tourists.
they amounted today that the soonest that they will allow travelers to enter is may 15 for now
I've read the virus does not last long in temps above 85 and only for a few minutes of direct sunlight which we have plenty of.

I'm sure the fish are snapping out there, as there has been pretty much zero pressure for the past couple months. I'm itching to get out there, maybe go do some deep dropping for groceries this week.

I am not booking any trips at the moment. There is currently talk about reopening the economy. I won't comment on whether or not we should, or what the timing of that should be. What I can say is that there is a lot of misunderstanding out there in regards to the path of this disease. Media says things like we have "peaked" but that is only true if we continue with current social distancing rules and keeping businesses closed. Clearly that cannot last forever, but this disease was an issue when we had 100 cases in the state - now we have 25000. What do you think is going to happen when businesses start to reopen. It is very likely that we are going to see waves of infection for a long time, with restrictions going through periods of being loosened and tightened. I don't know when I might start traveling again, but I am not even consider booking any trips at the moment. Maybe I'll consider something late summer or early fall depending on how things are, but that will likely just be towing the boat to the Keys or OBX or something. I certainly wouldn't want to end up stuck in Central America with a COVID infection.

I texted my daughter about an hour ago and told her to get her Bahamas Bag ready because we are going the first hour they open up. Shortly thereafter, I'm heading to the eastern Caribbean.

Hell I have pretty much kissed my Nov Cabo trip good by. They may let me out of the country by Nov but I got a feeling there’s a two week quarantine once I get back. So I’m screwed

Hoping and praying Spanish Wells in Feb. Mass depression if I can’t go

I'm taking my boat to OBA this weekend with my family (300 miles). Beaches are opening up and we will social distance. I am as front lines as you can possibly get.

I have a trip booked to Canada in early August. If travel to Canada is permitted I am 100% going.

But I am 50/50 in terms of my optimism.

We've basically postponed for one year our trip to England/Scotland departing in mid-May. Most of the stuff on this year's trip was refunded with the balance existing as credits for the future trip.

All I need is a reason and a ticket, although I don't leave the country really. Going to Kodiak in Sept for my goat hunt one way or another.

If I had the time and travel is permitted I would not hesitate. Travel smart, use basic infection control techniques and be careful. If you are obese, over 65, have diabetes, high blood pressure etc. or have elderly parents / relatives you need to care for, then you have different things to think about. (I realize I may have described a third of the population). We need to think differently and smarter about managing the risk IMO without closing down all of society.

couldn’t agree more.
a step farther, let’s all be happy HERE and never travel abroad. Nor do biz. Outside of our country. That would be great.

We are in the process of booking a family trip to Costa Rica in Feb of 2021. I'm excited about getting back down there and hope it pans out.
