Default What is a good way to rub it in when someone bails on a fishing trip

so my buddy who calls me at least once a week asking when I will take him fishing bailed out on me for the second time in a row the day before we were gonna go.

since I had already taken the time off work and gotten everything together I went all by my lonesome self.

Fishing was was excellent and I will be eating real good for a week.

So now the question is do I best rub it in?

That "buddy" wouldn't get a third chance from this captain. Extremely inconsiderate of anyone to bail twice in a row considering all of the effort / prep / expense the boat owner has to go through to make the trip happen...

I was going to suggest getting some good quality lube and a large roll of Bounty....

than I got it...

in all seriousness, invite him over for dinner and put a BigMac on his plate with the best catch on yours.

The best way to rub it in is to tell him that he won't get invited again since he had two opportunities and stood you up both times. If he is a close friend, explain why. If he isn't, let him figure it out for himself.

Or, if you wanted to teach him a lesson. Tell him to buy bait, food and drinks and to show up at 7:00, but leave at 6:00 before he gets there. When he asks where you are, ask him how it feels to go through the trouble of getting everything together only to be stood up.

easy... keep telling him about how epic is was. best trip ever, fish were everywhere, it was crazy, never seen anything like it. then tell him how you were just lucky, it rarely is ever that good.

What was his reason to cancel both times? Is he the type of person that cancels things at the last minute often?

Bail once, heh, shit and life happen, we get it. Bail 2x in a row and it's a character thing with the dude.

I wouldn't "rub it in ". I wouldn't talk about it with him. if he brings up the subject, change it. If he pushes the issue, tell him straight up that you're mad,you don't want to talk about it until you're NOT mad,and he will never get another opportunity to come again. Don't ask.

Even if I weren't mad. Just like with little children sometimes you've gotta act angry.

Hide the bait you didn't use in his car. Or maybe the guts from the fish you caught.

No one that bails twice on fishing trips gets asked a 3rd time on our boat. Wives, girlfriends, excuses have no bearing. We can still be friends. You will just not be included in our fishing plans. Hell, I even have a brother in-law who was asked several times when we first started running offshore regularly 14 years ago, and declined due to wives, family, etc. He has mentioned several times since that he would love to experience what it is like to run offshore and catch marlin and tuna, but has never been asked again. There are too many others that want to make the run offshore to worry about asking people that can't be counted on, and don't know the significance of the opportunity that is being presented to them.

Next time that he asks, tell him when and call it off at the last minute.
