Default Tulum Mexico

Heading down to Tulum Mexico from the 16-23rd. Would like to get some fishing in seems to be a lot of inshore flats fishing which I never done. I will have a car so can travel a little so options can open up. I love to offshore fishing though and love to catch a sail but think it’s to early.

also is it worth to bring a small rod and few lures to fish off beach early morning.

Anyhow wanted to see if anyone had any experience down there. Thanks in advance.

Spend a couple days in Cancun/Isla Mujeres and fish with Anthony on the Keen M , might get a sail there . It's a little early , but should be some around .

You can fish with Robert Navarro in Playa del Carmen , mostly jigging for snapper etc , no sails .

For offshore try Wasabi Loco, also a forum member and also located in Playa del Carmen. I've fished on their boats a couple of times and caught my first marlin, sailfish, and yellowfin tuna. Well run operation and good captains and first mates.

For an inshore trip I did Ascension bay, just south of Tulum mexico. I am not a fly guy so I brought my own spinning rods. I cant remember the guide I used but he told me he guided Lefty Kreh. We talked about spinning vs fly fishing. He asked "do you want to catch a lot of fish, or catch 1 fish on a fly rod". I said "a lot" so we used my pair of spinning setups and caught loads of bones, snook and other things even missed a permit. Two other older guys took a guide from the same dock and ended up sharing a fly rod and caught 1 bonefish, they were not happy hearing we caught so much using spinning gear and hermit crabs for bait.

I think the guides name was Chico either from pescamaya or boca pillia lodge (lodge closed but they still have their boats), you can find them on google. It was fairly cheap to do. Plenty of fish in a half day. Bring your own fluorocarbon and they will love you. Also the best bonefish jigs you can buy are simple and called "wiggle jigs" I brought them with me and they guy said I was spot on and we used them all day tipped with hermit crab. This is one place to get them. http://www.bluefintunatackle.com/bon...t-wiggle-jigs/

Locals will fish the bridge down there, I never had time to give it a shot. The back bay stuff was a blast to do though, so glad I spent the time to do it.

Call up Robert Navarro in Playa del Carmen you'll have a great trip tell him I sent you. If you want his personal contact info inbox me I have fished with this Roberto for 4 years in a row now and we talk regularly. The sword bite has been FIRE!

Roberto will not take you for a boat ride and his boat has 2019 reliable power.
