Default Mikes Marine / Punta Cana, DR

Having returned to Florida and been able to reflect on our 8-hour trip aboard the 38’ Blackfin Predator with Captain Alex and mates Javier and Aljeni, I am still in awe of their professionalism, fun working nature and OMG hustle to make everything perfect! I have NEVER seen the enthusiasm or level of rigging baits so quick (and all “running” true) as these guys were able to make it happen.

Meeting Mike: Great guy! Personable and all about family and fishing!

Crew: Captain Alex and mates Javier and Aljeni

Gear used: TLD 30 two speeds, Penn International 50 w

Ballyhoo (med and horse), double still rigged Islander

TRIP: The best part about fishing in Punta Cana is the fishing grounds are 15 mins out of the inlet. The 25+ pre-rigged ballyhoo were ready and got wet fast. Immediately, the bite was ON. And stayed on. ALL DAY! With multiple quad, triple and double hook ups, the action was nonstop. Mahi after mahi were on line, dancing on air and in the boat. After boating 20+ mahi, we headed for deeper water in search of Marlin and Wahoo. Had a massive strike on a blue marlin that crushed the shotgun ballyhoo. However, after a short fight won his freedom. Next up was a serious strike with an immediate long run away from our boat. No dancing bull mahi in sight, so this was it. My wife boated her first 54” stud wahoo. Our cousins continued to kill the sizable cow mahi and boated a few beautiful bull studs.

US: We are no stranger to off shore fishing. In fact, its just about an every weekend event where we live in Florida. That being said, I learned so much from watching this crew. The second those lines started to run, those guys were on it and VERY excited, just like us.

In summary, if you want the best charter I have ever been on, with the right gear, crew, boat and local knowledge, Mikes Marine is the only choice. There is a difference in charter fishing. We had boats all around us, and the next closest catch was 7 mahi. I know, sometimes you catch and sometimes you don’t, but there is no question, this operation will put you on the fish. See you next year Mike, if not sooner!

PLEASE NOTE: TIP your crew! The rule of thumb is at LEAST 15-20% of the charter. If you have a day like we did, break out those 100’s! Don’t be THAT GUY!
