Default Mexico Beach Red Snapper

With the Red Snapper weekends coming up I am looking to get on some red snapper with my kids. Looking for some suggestions for spots to go. With bait being kinda scarce was thinking vertical jigging with butterfly jigs might be best ; or?

Running out to some spots is not a big deal have a 30' twin outboard boat.

Any suggestions would be helpful thanks in advance

First off you need some good numbers to fish or fish some of the public reefs available in that area. These numbers are available onlilne just look them up as that area is loaded with Red Snapper. If they are public #'s you better go early and they will be hit hard by noon. Weather looks good this weekend and we like live pinfish but they will hit dead cigar minnows or LY's. I have a few spots that I will anchor up on and start chumming chunk CM's and we can catch them right behind the boat on lite trout/red fish spinning tackle which is fun for the kids. Good luck!

There was tons of bait just outside the pass in PC Saturday. Look on the Mexico beach reef association site and find the numbers for bell shoal. I’ve sleays caught bait there. Tip them with squid if you want hardtails. Keep looking on the site for the stuff in 80-100 ft and you’ll catch snapper if you can get thru the sharks and flipper.

Red Snapper will eat fried chicken. They aren't too picky. Frozen squid or sardines is usually my go to. Not sure about Mexico Beach but Destin and Pensacola I've been out only 5-6 miles pulling in big ones.

You can pretty easily catch them on hogy jigs and such too.

they will eat anything if they're there. Pick up pinfish when in shallow or other bait on the channel markers. There are a ton of published numbers for that area.

Thanks guys. We didn't do so well this weekend. We caught one and it was barely legal.
