Default Red Snapper FL waters Gulf near keys

Anyone familiar with red snapper fishing gulf side of the Florida keys? Is there a fishery and how far off shore would it be from say Islamorada, Marathon and Key West?

I fish out of SWFL and we have decent red snapper fishing to our west and southwest in 120+ feet of water. Probably better in 160. I have not targeted them since they closed, so I am not sure if this has changed. It would be a longer boat ride from Islamorada, but I would imagine if you went north and/or northwest of Key West to 120+ feet you could find some. It would still be a fairly long boat ride from Key West.

The Keys are in Monroe County which goes by Atlantic rules. Snapper is not open there

Jack is correct. I did not think of that. You would not be able to return to Monroe county in possession of Red Snapper. You would need to depart/return from Collier or Lee County.

Your understanding is correct. Snapper will be open in the Gulf on Oct 12-13, 19-20, and 26-27. But you have to land them in an area where it's open, and It is not open in Monroe County, Gulf or Atlantic
