Good used/older reels?

Basically looking for some older Cabo's, Shimano's etc and just wanted some input on what to keep an eye out for. I'm looking for stuff that would be comparable or above Penn Battles but don't know much about other brands that make a good saltwater reel. The Penns hold up great but I wouldn't call them smooth.

Thinking inshore 3000-4000 size spinning reels with great drag and smooth.

for spinners I think my new model saragosa's will be around for a while. no issues...and I really like the old saltiga Z spinners. For conventional reels... my SA saltiga's are like little internationals.

Saragosa is a bit out of budget or more accurately I don't want to spend over $200 for a spinning reel.

Everything I have ever read or heard about the new Daiwa BG is excellent and you can purchase new for less than $200.

If you can find older Calcuttas in decent shape, they are worth rebuilding. I have a couple of 20+ year old ones that had been neglected, and was thinking about replacing them. But after talking to the guys at the shop, they recommended cleaning and rebuilding. Only a couple parts needed replacing, so for about $70, both are like new (save for the scuffs and scratches). Much better than spending $400+ on 2 new ones.

Sure, they aren't as sleek as other models, but they have stood up to abuse over time.

My bad, you were looking at spinning reels.

I have 2 of the BG's 4000 and so far they are very smooth. Good reviews on them. They were around $85 a piece.

My BG's were inexpensive to purchase and are way smoother than and "older" spinners I have used...

FOR THE MONEY the BGs are the best spinners on the market, tough, lots of capacity, smooth strong drag, super smooth retrieve (smoother than any other reel for 2x the price).

I kicked tires on all of them last month bought a BG for my son and a Balistic for me.

Good used/older reels?

The best used spinning reels IMHO are Shimano Sustain FD- FE's, next are Stradic FJ's and FI's..

Look hard at the pictures of the handles...if the rubber handle is breaking down, it has a lot of use....

Just another BG fan here.
For less than $100 brand new, hard to bet.
I have 3 I use offshore.
Always look good when I pull them apart.

Going to pick up at least one Daiwa BG and found a battle II I had laying around. Trying to buy a Quantum cabo 40 for $70 that's in fair shape too.

I have a ton of outdated reels hanging around and some conventional reels i'll never use.. Need to get rid of them.
