Iíve personally fished with multiple charter captains in Venice over the last decade. I canít speak of the captain identified in this thread, but Jordan Ellis with MGFC is one of the best captains Iíve ever used. Not only is he a fish killing SOB, heís one of the all around best dudes youíll ever meet. Totally professional at all times and someone Iíd have a beer with anytime.

What does that have to do with anything. Most manufacturers have special pricing for certain clients. For example, Yellowfin has for years done a deal where if you agree to buy a new boat every year then you get reduced pricing.

Haha you should probably avoid halibut fishing then...Having fished with Colin, I can say the operation is run like a swiss watch. He takes the fishing extremely seriously and if you pay attention you can learn a ton of things. One for me was the bead on the sabiki rods. As I was told to reel the bead to the tip while getting hardtails off the rigs, I still would always leave a gap making it harder for them to debait the sabiki. I applaud the guys at MGFC for putting up with folks that are stubborn and full of extremely high expectations while trying to deliver on some demanding fishing.

Did you miss you the part where I typed ďpure interestĒ and ďfact-findingĒ? It was a question I was curious about. Thank you for explaining how builders price their boats for repeat customers. My question was regarding selling them.

Itís probably to the fact that the extremely high expectations are connected to the extremely high charter cost, $3k plus fuel plus $xx.xx for a bucket of ice.

If these boats fish 250 days a year, they bring in $750k. Fuel is paid by customer. Without knowing too much about the operational cost, ROI seems good.

The 3k included fuel, next time go check their charter pricing before you post stupid shit like this.

Daily rates for the boats were posted in THIS thread. $3K was not a posted daily rate.

Daily rates vary from $1,800 to $2,000 plus fuel, depending on boat and captain. I've personally never had a fuel bill much over $600 when using MGFC.

I gave up on Venice after last year, easier to just run to the same spot from other venues.

I fished the captain referenced in this thread yesterday. Had a great trip. Can't wait to fish the next trip.

Iíll preface this with yes I expect to be bashed for the post, but itís an honest take from my charter with these guys. I fished on another 42 over the winter going down to Venice with expectations for great fishing and wanting to leave thinking the 42 would be my next boat and not a Viking.

Venice is a cool place and if the fishing and charter industry there dies so will the community.

I left saying i wouldnít fish with mgfc ever again and I would never be replacing my competitors 40 ft cc with a freeman. Iím also used to fishing on a boat with a lot of yelling, long northeast canyon runs on a cc and a grisly thick skinned crew. Iíll also never put a trip here over a trip to Costa Rica. Captain thought he walked on water, and felt like he was just taking us for a boat ride. Boat was a great platform, but didnít like the rough water that day as the journey south sea Vee ran right past us while we struggled to make 20 knots.

Not bashing anything, just concurring with some reviews above.

I would much rather go to Costa Rica for that much money not knocking Venice , I went out on cloudy off and on rainy day out of quepos and the fishing was off the hook.

Funny, I fished with Journey South back when they had their freeman and just got their SeaVee. Fished two days, one on each boat. Their Freeman was a much better ride and fishing platform and we made 35-40 in some rough stuff. Went out the next day in the SeaVee, and while faster, it was not anywhere close in terms of ride, even sitting on beanbags. Hated to see them get rid of that Freeman.

When Collin pulls up to whodat and tosses 100s of live pogies out, I like to stand on the ttop and cast my popper right at'em! An if I ever get a chance imma hop on one of them mexican boats and let them treat me like shit, except I'll have plenty of beer and hookers and those guys will think I walk on water. Next time tip cocaine!
