Default Shimano's New Speedmaster?

Looking into small jigging/trolling reel and of course The Talica 25 is going to catch the eye, but I just stumbled on the new Shimano Speedmaster 2 Speed Lever Drag spec'd at 40lbs of drag and priced at $259. Seems like amazing bang for the buck thats worth giving a whirl instead of spending triple on a Talica. Only releasing in a 12 and 16 to start but I am wondering if anyone knows anything else about this reel and if they plan to release bigger sizes quickly. Also wondering overall if this the start of Shimano releasing new equipment? (Link Below to reel on TD). Thanks.

I own a Talica 25ii, and while it is an excellent 24kg trolling reel, wouldn't regard it as being suitable for jigging, just too big.

The Speedmaster2 in the 12 size weighs in at 25 oz and can hold 400 yds of 65# braid...and has 40 #'s of drag.. It retails for $249.95 and is a two speed reel......pretty impressive.

5.7:1 and 3.1:1 for the speeds..

The Talicas are aluminum bodied reels and these are "Hagane" a combination of aluminum and magnesium. It also comes with another drag cam that has a different ramp.

I'd love to see the single speed version with a live bait drag cam...

I have several Talica ii's and would not recommend the 25 for jigging. Awesome reel but the frame is too big. If that's your plan I would downsize to a 12 or 16.

I'm with you. Something has to be deficient for Shimano to offer it $200 cheaper than a single speed Talica. Probably a good deal for live bait or light trolling though.

You and everyone else!!! This new reel is cool but it is nothing like the original. Not even close.

Looks like a nice kite fishing reel. I am not well versed in jigging, but that is pretty fast, not the fastest, but look like they are a good size for the kite with 20lb mono

I'm not that experienced a fisherman, but all of my Shimano gear gets an A+ rating from me (Trevala, Toriums, Tiagras) so the question the question "so whats missing" is why do you think just because it is cheaper that Shimano would intentionally make/sell something that is going to ruin what seems to be a strong reputation? I think someone would be crazy to just dismiss it because it is too "inexpensive".

I think so but I could be mistaken, he does say on his post that it has arrived.

I am curious what the finish is and how it is going to hold up? And of course, already mentioned but don't want a 2 speed. I sent a message to the Shimano rep but didn't get a reply and also sent one to Shimano USA about the possibility of a single speed and the response from Shimano USA was "they haven't told us"......silliest answer ever. I am a buyer for a set of single speeds right now but if they come out next year, I will most likely have already bought something else.

Following. I’m looking to buy 4-6 of them for dink rods and striper trolling.
