Default Fishing in Fiji ?

Was thinking of planing a trip to fiji next summer. What's the fishing like there, wouldn't mind trying to catch some GTs and dogtooth tunas. I live in Florida so when planning trips I like to go places to catch fish I cant at home. Been to Panama, Mexico, costa Rica so looking for something different. Thanks for any info!

I fished out of Suva about three decades ago. We motored out to some motus about 5 hrs away and achored up for the night. We caught so many reef fish that night it was crazy. Hand lining Fijian style until this haole cried uncle (bleeding hands). The next morning really early we trolled the reefs nearby and caught the biggest wahoo I´ve ever seen. Probably 80 plus lbs.

I can´t be specific about where as I was invited by some locals and wasn´t navigating. It is a really beautiful place.

ps
If you go to the Royal Suva yacht club don´t wear a hat when you enter!

Head down to the Great Astrolabe Reef there's a couple operations on nearby Kadavu Island there that can help you catch what you want.

And you do need local operations Fiji is all 100% private property to the outside of the reef so you can't just start walking along plugging the shoreline without local permission.

Wonderful place some of the the nicest finest people you'll ever meet.

Find one of the full time charter boats rather than one of the boats attached to a resort. Like a lot of places, the resort boats are there to pluck teh low hanging dollars. That was my experience at least.
