Default Bluefin reel speed- high or low? Cape cod

do people generally fish in high gear or low gear? Had a giant on last weekend and the low gear is nice, but when it runs at the boat itís very hard to keep up with. Anyone have a system? Start in high and drop to low when it s tired?

thanks!

I generally consider low gear too risky for using on fast pelagics like tuna, marlin etc. But I only fish from a chair or standup. If you fish from a rod holder or rail I could see how it might help. I would still only use low gear for when the fish is really dogging and not when it is still running. That's for me at least. I hate seeing my anglers switch to low gear when they could be working the rod better and still be on high gear.

High gear only for most fish. If they are really stubborn doing circles right below the boat we will sometimes switch to low.

High gear. Low gear is pulling on the line to assist while in high gear.
