Default Penn International II 50s help

Anyone familiar with rebuilding a Penn International II 50s reel? I received one free and I've been able to clean and rebuild it except the 2 speed button doesn't work. I think the problem is with the plunger. I'm a little confused how the pin, spring and plunger reassemble. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh, that reel is shot
Don't bother, just send it to me for disposal
I had a couple that wouldn't stay in high gear

It's an easy fix, just send it to

The first thing you need is a schematic, so here it is...50s.pdf

Next, see those two little pins, key #172A? I will assure you one or the other is inside the gear shaft. That's how I find them when sent Penn 50S that someone has had apart.

It is a delicate procedure to build that shaft back up with the plunger, spring and pins all intact..you cannot insert that shaft in the endplate without depressing the spring and plunger and having the pins retract....

If you need help, I service that reel for $42..

Hey Rick, if you come across one in good shape, I'm looking for that reel, don't want a wide.

Rick, thanks for the comments. I had the schematics but it doesn't exactly explain how the pins need to be depressed while inserting it into the shaft. I finally got it and it seems to be working fine. Thanks.
