Default Best Rod To Match w/Saragosa 8000 ?

What rod would you match with a Shimano Saragosa 8000 for Tarpon and Cobia fishing? How about for bottom dropping for grouper/snapper?

Shimano Tallus or Teramar 8’ 30-65 or 40-80 are perfect for what you want to do and won’t break the bank.

8’? No thanks. 5’-6’ is plenty for what he’s trying to do.

I have 5-6 rigs for 8000 and 10000 Saragossa's I mainly tarpon fish and grouper plug casting. Favorite rod is the 8’ terez which they no longer make. I bought 2, 8’ st croix tournaments I like the rod for grouper and tarpon but don’t cast as good as the terez. For the $ the Shimano 8’ teramar is the best bet. But I’ll take my terezs any day over them all. Hope this helps. Terez makes some nice bottom/jigging spinner rods but I don’t really bottom fish with spinners. I use the talicas for that.

Thanks guys! Now I have a good starting point. How much do the Terez and Teramars typically go for in the sizes mentioned?

A buddy of mine does very well on both tarpon and cobia on the 8' heavier model teramars with that exact reel. Also killed a 116lb yft on a popper with one.

I have some Saragosa 10000s (essentially the same reel). I use 2 different rods. Calstar 700L and Phenix BD Hybrid PSW-700XH, both 7', both Connley built. The calstar is more like the teramar and the phenix is more like the terez. Throwing anything (like in tarpon and cobia fishing) the calstar is way more better than the phenix. I use the phenix for snapper.

I love my Tallus 7 footers and use them exactly as you plan on using them. They can close the deal on a100+ poon quickly and rip ARS up from 180-200 in nothing flat. TLS72HBBL

I own 2 Shimano Trilejo 8' & 7'6" surf rods that I use for Tarpon & Sharks.
Last Sat. hooked, fought & lost several Spinner Sharks & no Tarpon, on the 7'6". Paired with a Penn Spinfisher VI 5500.
My only complaint is the rod butt is too slim, digs in when fighting a big fish.
Purchased a "Cush It" solved that problem.
Now if I could only solve " my no Tarpon catching problem, while seeing pods swim by the boat issue...." ICM

Pictured is my only hooked Tarpon from 2016. Rod was the Trilejo 8' paired with Penn Spinfisher VI 6500 reel.

No need to rub that point in! Been chasing them for a month now without a hook up.
Check out my buddy Harold's last trip to Boca Grande video I edited for him...... ICM
