Default reel question

I am looking for 4 nice reels, talica 25 vs avet ex30 or etc,,,,,,,,, but looking for that spool size alot of manufactures are hard to compare to due to their is no standards, im not even sure which accurate would be in that size range, this is why i need the power of THT thanks in advance, also reels will be used for trolling maybe chunking, and must be silver

talica 25 is nothing like an Avet ex30.
talica 25 is most comparable to an Avet HX Raptor (strong & light). Avet ex30 is most comparable to Shimano tiagra 30 (big & heavy).

Buy once, cry once. I'd go with Talica's and be done with it unless your dead set on buying US made....

I would think as long as you're not high speed trolling with 3lb weights, the Talicas should do just fine, and it may do HST perfectly well. But I don't own any Talica's and don't troll a lot, lol, so you might want to wait for some more input. I do own a bunch of Avet Raptor's and periodically troll them. Do some more research on the Talica's but I think that will be the best reel for your application.

Also I don't see a good reason to buy a 30 size old school reel (tiagra, international, EX) anyway. You get signifantly more drag, the same capacity, and a much lighter reel going with a Talica or Raptor. I can see how the added line capacity and increased drag of a 50 or 80 would be beneficial, but I don't get the 30's, except for saving $$$ of course.

You need to start with what you’re trolling to catch and work backwards. I want to catch a ________pound ________ fish.

The next thing to take into consideration is how big are you and the people you fish with. A 30 wide and a 50 standard are somewhat comparable in specs but the 50 standard is a much better fit in my hands. All of the mfgr. listed weights are without string so the weight difference is negligible once you put the string on.

The last consideration is will your trolling grow into something other than you do right now? If you’re trolling for mahimahi now but think you might add HST for wahoo in the future you should go for reels that will handle that.

I would look at the HXW Raptor. They're stronger, lighter, and hold more line than the TAC 25s, They're also ~$150 cheaper than TAC 25's while being American made, I have used my HXW's for years with 0 issues. Fantastic reels. However, I were not getting Raptors, I would get TAC's.

If you want side by side comparisons, look at Tackledirect for specs. They seem to be closer and give you a better idea than going from manufacturer to manufacturer.

I have Tac 25s and troll for tuna in the NE. They are the best reel going, light, smooth, and strong. These reel wont hurt the angler as the other do. Pair that reel with a carbon fiber trolling rod and you will have the best of both worlds.

Talisa 25 2 speed is a badas reel. Had one on the boat a few trips ago. It manhandled a sailfish to the boat.
