Default 300 Hour Service -- Must be done by dealer? final word

hey all, I know that the topic of warranty coverage and self-servicing the engine has been a hotly debated one over the years, with the general consensus being that the owner can perform all of the basic services on his own engine without voiding the warranty.

However, when looking at the Maintenance Schedule -- http://www.simyamaha.com/category_s/1807.htm -- it shows that the 300 hour service for a few items MUST be performed by the authorized dealer. Most importantly, it says that the water pump/impeller housing service must be done by them.

I'm coming up on 300 hours on my F250B and would much prefer to do my own water pump changes/oil changes/etc on my own. I've done it for the past 100 hour services. And I've seen the "work" that my local shop does (trust me, I'm better). So why would the 300 hour be any different?

What's the final word on this? Can I do it or not, while still being cool with my warranty?

None of us can speak for Yamaha. Call their customer support number and get the info you need straight from the horses mouth.

I just hit 300 hours on my F150. I called Yamaha in GA and they told me absolutely I can do it myself (water pump included). They told me to keep a log of all my maintenance activities.

It is a semi complex job that many backyard wrenches are not comfortable doing. That is why Yamaha lists it as dealer maintenance.

For future reference, it is not legal for any manufacturer to require dealer service for anything, ever. As long as the job is done correctly at the proper interval your warranty cannot be voided. Proper records may be required.
