Default Paint over Gelcoat?

Is anyone doing this? What r the pros/cons?

Are we talking about painting a hull with the likes of Awlgrip or the like?

Well I had my boat painted. Paiinting gelcoated boats is a pretty common practice. Why is this posted in Shurholds forum anyway?

Like FishnFool said, it's not uncommon to sand down and spray over the top of gelcoat. Pro's are essentially "resetting" the life of your finish and giving you a nonporous surface for wax to adhere to. Plenty of people do it when the gelcoat has been worn thin or has denatured to the point of not being cost effective to restore.

How much did it cost i want to paint the sides of 28ft contender, one color above water line in south broward

Even new boats where paint is going to be the final finish are built with gelcoat.
