Default Chartplotters/Fishfinder combo

Question, should your decision as to which plotter/sounder to buy based on the pixel count? If so how do you decide which count is best?

For me....... the pixel count is the least important aspect of a sonar system.
With all the current top of the line Simrad,Garmin and Furuno systems currently available...they all have excellent viewable screens.

In the selection of a good system for fishing... the transdcuer should be very high on the shopping list.
The transducer is the eyes and ears of the sonar system... ones system should not be lacking a quality transducer for their fishing paramaters.

Many of the screen shots in the below link were made with older units that had lower count pixels etc.. but high quality transducers were used......thus very good target info shown on the screen..

CHIRP SONAR..EXAMPLES..and FYI

Semperfifishing thank you for responding! How does brightness come into play? The reason I ask is I am thinking of buying a ECHOMAP plus with g3 and GT51-M transducer. I fished a boat yesterday that had a ECHOMAP 94SV and a GPSMAP 721. The 721 was much brighter and easier to see which made me concerned about buying the ECHOMAP plus

There will be difference between those units yes.
But first it is important to make certain both units were run with the same basic backlight and color adjustments.
Each unit does have a good bit of play with both those items...especially the back light......most out of the box factory settings of back light needs changing...and few do it as they are not aware of the options.
And yes, different size screens will have changes in the pixel count..so for brightness....that can be a concern if a unit does not have options to adjust.

I always run my units with a custom sun visor / hood.. ...as my eyes are shot...ugh!

I’m old 68. So being able to see is paramount. Not sure where the 721was but I checked the 94 backlight was set at 100%

Then best to have hands on with several units and see what you like best..and the different sizes also affect the viewing also.
