Hi Gil... i’m in the market for a 12 or 15 inch Garmin xsv model. Since these new 86xx models are coming out, when would Garmin typically reduce the prices on the 12xx and 76xx xsv models? Or have they already been reduced?! I just don’t need the latest and greatest for my type of fishing (and mostly diving). Thanks!

What is the compelling reason for spending the extra $ on 8600 series vs 7600 beyond the HD IPS screen? Is 8600 series only way to get the new g3 navionics maps or is that going to be available on the 7600 series as well? Does it have connectivity that exceeds the 8pin and 12pin transducer options in 7600 series? I think it has faster chip so that is probably another advantage.

I think I have a P66 right now. I just bought the boat. It's a World Cat so I have to use a transom mounted ducer. I fish and dive in Southern California on reefs and wrecks in the 50-150 range usually. But we also have an offshore season here as well... maybe 300-400 feet deep at most. I do want chirp and side scan. Not sure if the GT 50, 51 or 52 is best for my needs? I don't want to skimp on a transducer after spending good money on an MFD. Your thoughts are appreciated. Thank you! Oh, if it matters I'll also be using a Garmin 741xs as a second unit.

First..the G3 cards coming out in Feb will allow current 7400/7600 units.. plus most legacy units to have the same mapping capability as the new 8600xsv units.
As far as sonar..the new 8600xsv units will have Ultra High Definition Side/Down Vu built in.( with a ducer port for that) ...where as the 7400/7600 would require a black box for that feature.
The Ultra High Def seems best for use in shallow water..excellent for fresh water use for crappie , walley , bass, etc that hold tight to structure etc.

Both the 7400/7600 xsv units and the new 8600xsv have single or dual channel CHIRP..thus both will give the same basic performance with the same transducers.
And if only a single channel CHIRP is needed..the single channel Garmin units such as the 742xs, 942xs, 1042xsv, 1242xsv will save some $ and give the same sonar performance as the 7400/7600 / 8600xsv units using the same single band CHIRP ducers.

So, it all comes down to what one is looking for in a unit....and ones fishing paramaters.
In my opinion...few would need to take out a 7612xsv and replace it with the new 8612xsv.

If building a new boat and wanting to start from scratch...then it is down to personal choices...and then one may consider the new 8600xsv units.

I am re outfitting my own boat as we speak and am putting in dual 1242xsv button units and I am using a GT51-Tm and a thru hull SS175C-HW.
And being a dealer I get the units at cost..but personally do not see the need for the newer units for my own paramaters......plus I am cheap..like to save $...lol.

I have already taken some customer pre- orders on the new 8600xsv units..mostly for new builds.

But since Garmin removed the MRP restrictions on the 74007600 units...allowing me to sell those units at discount.....we have shipped large numbers of those daily.
And to be fair......many of those sales were for those wanting to add a second like unit to their boat.
Many had said they would have liked to have the newer units but did not like the mismatch in size etc...if they kept one of the 7600xsv unit s also.

Sometimes deciding how to outfitting a boat can lead to a great deal of premature hair loss...lol

Current 7212 clean setup.
Good evening...I just purchased a boat with a pair of 7212 units...the only thing that seems to work without doing major glass work is a pair of 8616s... they will actually fit perfectly. I’m actually giving up my 8622 on the boat I’m selling....very sad but it is perfect for that vessel.
I alraedy have a B265 Chirp working in the boat which I can assume thru a sounder module. Do I need the 8616xsv units for both, none, or one? What’s your thoughts?...and what’s the availability of the 8616 standard?

Also...my 8622 had Bahamas charts already loaded I think...is the 8616 the same?

Thank you in advance for your help.

The 8600xsv units wil also have US Coastal and Bahamas charts.
You will not require a black box for the B265..but it will not hurt to keep it.

If you have one 8600 xsv you can use a chart only version for the second and network them together.

On the units ordered for my customers ..we are showing a shipping date of 1/28.
From past experience on new units...I would expect that to be a variable date.

Thank you...and I’m sorry but I’m still a little confused and I’m sure it’s just me.

1. Does the 8600 chart only have the US Coastal and Bahamas?

2. Is the 8600 chart only available now? Available sooner?

3. Is the 8600 xsv better than the black box I currently have to run the B265?

Thank you

These units are not shipping till the end of the month.

If you have the GSD-26 and a B265..that is an excellent combination.
I personally would keep it...but still get at least one 8600xsv units..that way you have a back up.
and...The 8600xsv units have additional sonar systems built in beside the 1 kw CHIRP........such as the side and down scan.

Any truth to a batch of 8616 units being shipped already? A handful of suppliers supposedly received a few this week and they are sold out.
